Sustainability at EAS 2024

Going Green Together

We believe that we all have a part to play in preserving our future for generations to come, both locally and across the globe.
At the EAS Congress 2024, we think everyone has a role to play in maintaining a healthy and sustainable ecosystem. And even small actions matter! Therefore, we’ve taken steps to make the Congress more environmentally friendly.

EAS 2024 and the Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, also called the Global Goals) are 17 goals with 169 targets that all UN Member States have agreed to work toward achieving by 2030. They set out a plan for a world without poverty, hunger, and disease.
We at the EAS Congress 2024 want to contribute to the achievement of these objectives in our value chain. We support and work toward the following SDGs:

Contributions You Can Make as an EAS Congress 2024 Delegate:

As individuals and as a community, we can and should individually contribute to protecting the earth and its natural systems and resources and to sustaining the natural ecological balance of the ecosystem. Here is what we encourage you to do during the EAS 2024 Congress:

  • Use the mobile app and the virtual platform (instead of printing) to inquire about the programme details
  • Use more sustainable ways of traveling to and around Lyon (take the train instead of a flight; ride a bike or walk, instead of getting a taxi). Benefit from the free-of-charge transportation tickets offered by the City of Lyon – those will be available at the Registration Desk and will be distributed on a “first come first served” basis.
  • Opt for reusable mugs and bottles. We will make sure there are enough water fountains around the venue, don’t forget your bottle!
  • Join the Carbon Offsetting Programme

UNICEF at the EAS Congress 2024

As an additional CSR activity, the cloakroom at the EAS Congress will be managed by volunteers of the UNICEF (the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund is an organisation that provides humanitarian and developmental assistance to children & mothers in developing countries).

Participants are encouraged to donate to UNICEF when depositing their belongings at the cloakroom. An additional donation will be made by the Congress.

End hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition

The Lyon Congress Centre has a strong food redistribution programme. Since March 2022, nearly 13,000 meals have been redistributed to the three partner actors: Salvation Army Federation, Friends of all, who are part of the federation of the Little Brothers of the Poor and The Missing Chain Association. Through collaborative efforts and innovative solutions, we aim to eradicate hunger, ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious food. By promoting sustainable agricultural practices, supporting local food systems, and advocating for policies that prioritize food security, we are working towards a future where every individual can thrive with access to adequate and nourishing meals.

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

At the EAS Congress 2024, we firmly believe that well-being is not just a desirable outcome, but an essential core value that underpins all aspects of our conference. As professionals in the field of psychiatry, we have a moral responsibility to prioritize the well-being of our patients, colleagues, and society as a whole. By placing well-being at the forefront, we demonstrate our commitment to ethical principles that guide our work and promote the highest standard of care. This year we also have the EAS Fun Run to make sure that we are offering our delegates a fun opportunity to take care of their physical well-being while attending the Congress.

Securing access to comprehensive and fair education while advocating for lifelong learning opportunities

With thousands of attendees at the EAS Congress, we champion the significance of healthcare and strive to uphold the utmost standards of clinical practice, alongside facilitating access to cutting-edge advancements in the field. Consequently, our primary objective centers on consistently refining the scientific programme to promote inclusivity, fostering active on-site engagement, and guaranteeing sustained educational opportunities for all participants. The EAS Congress Fellowship and Travel Grants programme provides younger, upcoming researchers a prestigious platform from which to launch or progress their international careers.

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

All the EAS 2024 delegates are encouraged to use the Congress App as a reference point for the programme to avoid extra printing. Additionally don’t forget to bring your bottles – water fountains have been installed onsite. Reusable cups and water bottles are also offered to the delegates and visitors to the conferences taking place on the site. The Center has replaced the non-woven fabric for the formwork of the catering buffets with fabric covers. 25,000 meters of nonwovens are thus not thrown away. The coffee breaks are set up with porcelain and glass tableware to limit disposables.
